Lead Veterinary Technician (General Practice)Thrive Austin East 7th
2795 E 7th St., Austin, TX 78702
Compensation is negotiable based on experience and credentials, with an expected starting range of $22-24/hour. The actual pay will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
$1000 Sign-on Bonus
Full-time: 4 day, 10 hour shift and a minimum of two Saturdays a month

About You
You’re an experienced veterinary technician who enjoys leading by example and building a strong, supportive team. In this Lead Veterinary Technician role, you’ll help drive efficient daily flow, uphold high standards of patient care and safety, and coach technicians across appointments, surgery/anesthesia, dentistry, and hospitalized care. You’ll partner closely with the Practice Manager and medical team to keep the hospital running smoothly-while still staying hands-on with patients.
Your Experience & Skills
- 3-5+ years of veterinary technician experience
- Proven leadership: training, mentoring, shift-leading, or supervising technicians/assistants
- Credentialed veterinary technician (LVT/RVT/CVT) preferred (or eligible/actively pursuing)
- Hands-on proficiency in surgery support, anesthesia induction/monitoring, and dental procedures
Role Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Foster a positive and professional team culture
- Coach, train, and support the technician team
- Enforce and uphold Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Conduct DEA auditing and maintain compliance
- Coordinate equipment maintenance and troubleshoot repairs
- Assist PM with inventory management, ordering, labor costs, and budget awareness
- Support marketing initiatives and promotions
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training new technicians in all areas of patient care and anesthetic monitoring
- Partner with the Practice Manager (PM) on performance management
- Support Veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients
- Assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain a positive patient flow
- Assist with surgeries and procedures in accordance with your state's Veterinary Practice Act outlined for credentialed veterinary technicians
- Use safe restraining techniques, follow standards protocols, and sustain clean, sterile, organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs.
- Assist in maintaining relevant, comprehensive medical records with the support of practice systems
- Other duties as assigned
Physical and Additional Requirements:
- Regular and reliable attendance is required
- Ability to frequently lift and carry items up to 40 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
- Must be willing to work long hours in a fast paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining composure
- Ability to walk, bend, stand, and reach frequently during shifts lasting a minimum of 8 hours
